Please won't you switch your seat with me! Lyrics Copyright Michael Curtis 2020 All rights reserved (to the music of I'll Tell Me Ma) Verse 1: Let the wind and the rain and hail blow high There's a flu been flown in from Shanghai. The shop shelves just have apple pie. There’s a sweaty lady I’m sat beside. Chorus: She is handsome; she is pretty Pale-faced on the inter-city. She's a coughing 1 2 3; Please won't you switch your seat with me! Verse 2: No elbow room; can't breathe; no air. And all the boys are shouting at her; Pulling on the doors and emergency bell; Saying, "Hey conductor! She's unwell!" Out she comes as white as snow, Using her fingers to rub her nose. Ole Jenny Murray says we'll die If we touch her germs then rub our eyes. Go to chorus. Verse 3: I'll tell me ma when I go home She must self-isolate alone They pulled my job; can't share my comb; The government won't pay my loans. Go to chorus.

The Orangery 05:51
The Orangery A poem by Michael Curtis Copyright Michael Curtis 2020 All rights reserved I thought I'd seek an orangery For a greenery is not a thing. I started at the roundabout but about and round not a fig was found Oh where might the orangery be? And so I did a walk and chanced upon The Walk To find a sign of misleading line The Walk to not a thing And to no orangery would the walk thus bring. Road? A! so busy; busy so, A Road! I clung to the side and kept a steady line; Til a new sign did bring. Not of the orangery but perhaps to a way in. And roundabout once more but not once more the same; I found around a corner, a rais-ed gate so strange. And still nothing of orange but distant green in sight. Yet there beyond the gravel was a fork both left and right. Distantly remembered I despite nepenthe dose The right path leads to nowhere to nowhere does it go; So left I branched to leafy branch and call of raven crow. Still no orangery; but nay look back in anger; I seek a Spanish orange; my juicy bright naranja. Past many a bluebell and curious side path Past the left downhill turn to mini lakes and grass. Straight did I keep my course except a chance right turn To admire painted pebbles of rainbow hues discerned. Fair eggs of childhood imagery; orange yes but not -ery. The green was so inviting; so wide to break the narrow; But rather did I climb the right by bleak grey field a'fallow. Yellow stone I crunched my way; ascended to a path; the right bordering the B1000; where green bus did pass. But right would simply loop me back from whence I came; I wouldst find my orangery; and nay begin again. So left I branched more stoney path; Like Indian sandstone; and on it cast my shadow; and square of my cellphone. As video I might this walk as breadcrumbs to my mind; For often have I lost my way on nature walks this kind. And bent the path but simple stayed and only truly led one way; Past fallow field barren and grey and brown beyond where hedgerow lay. And never did imagine I in guessing finds so scenic; that there beyond the hedgerow was a grumpy wooden phoenix. Though startled by this shapen tree, it was it was no orangery. I wrapped around the gnarled bird corner and followed yellow path; Til a vast green hill did open up and all I could was gasp. For the deep blue waters far below were sparkling in the sun; but what of my orangery; this open view bore none. So right I turned across the top of steep descending hill; Let others walk to that water; I shall linger still. And walk past quarry boarded land and walk by wooded path; 'Til I found a tree; 500 years its stance. And there I wailed, "How can this be? I've walked all of Panshanger! Yet there is no orangery; let alone sweet banana!" And so I turned retracing steps and in not many yards, I chanced to see a ruin, to rival Kubla Khan's! And there a sign did stand and revealed to me That though this was but concrete frame, this was my orangery. Which once did flourish blossom but now bore nought to me. Forlorn I said be damned this quest, I want a shrubbery!

Tied Up With a Black Velvet Band Lyrics Copyright Michael Curtis 2020 All rights reserved To be sung to the traditional folk song: Black Velvet Band. G. In a neat little town they call Belfast, to a bed I was D. bound G. And many's the hours of Em. cries for help, and C. still no D. help is G. found. G. I don't know what came over me; to stray from acts far more D. bland. G. Far away from me friends and rel- Em. -ations, I'm tied C. up with a D. black velvet G. band. Her G. eyes they shone like diamonds, I thought her the queen of the D. land And her G. hair it hung over her Em. shoulder, walking C. out with me D. cash in her G. hand! G. I took a stroll with this pretty fair maid, "I'm a gentleman", says D. I. I G. knew she meant the doing Em. up of me, by the C. look in her D/ roguish black G. eye. A G. watch chain she took from her pocket, and she tied up my right D. hand. And the G. very first thing that I Em. thought was, Oh C. God! Not the D. black velvet G. band! Her G. eyes they shone like diamonds, I thought her the queen of the D. land And her G. hair it hung over her Em. shoulder, walking C. out with me D. cash in her G. hand! G. Now before a judge and a jury, next morning I had to ap- D. -pear. Oh the G. judge he said to me Em. "Young man, your C. case is D. proven G. clear She G. eyed you up for servitude, when you flaunted cash in your D. hand. Far a- G. -way from your friends and re- Em. -lations, tied C. up with the D. black velvet G. band. Her G. eyes they shone like diamonds, I thought her the queen of the D. land And her G. hair it hung over her Em. shoulder, walking C. out with me D. cash in her G. hand! So G. come all ye jolly young fellows, and a warning take by D. me For G. when you are out on the Em. town me lads, be- C. -ware of them D. pretty coll- G. -eens. For they'll G. feed you with strong ale "More Yeah", until you are unable to D. stand; And the G. very next thing that you Em. know me lads, is you C. find that you D. can't move your G. hands! Her G. eyes they shone like diamonds, I thought her the queen of the D. land And her G. hair it hung over her Em. shoulder, walking C. out with me D. cash in her G. hand! Her G. eyes they shone like diamonds, I thought her the queen of the D. land And her G. hair it hung over her Em. shoulder, walking C. out with me D. cash in her G. hand! I'm tied C. up with a D. black velvet G. band!
